The Department started in 1981 and was offering pre-degree course. Dr. S. Zachariah served as the faculty in the department. Mr. Ranji P Mathews joined as senior lecturer on 17. 11.1993 in the leave vacancy of. Dr. S. Zachariah. The department was upgraded with the commencement of BSc Botany in 1999 – 2000. The pre degree course was delinked from the college in the academic year 2000–2002. Dr. S. Zachariah resigned from the service and Mr. Ranji P. Mathews was shifted to that permanent vacancy with effect from 01.06.2001. Mr. Ranji P. Mathews retired from service on 31.03.2015. Ms. Elizabeth George and Dr. Ajesh T. P. joined the department as Assistant Professors on 01.06.2016. The department of Zoology also functions under the Botany department.
